From Notting Hill to Amelia ... experience of an English family

The english family's story that bought a villa in Amelia to escape the city life and move to peacafull Italian countryside.

Although my wife and myself know Italy well, we had not spent much time in Umbria until 2011. At the same time we were looking for a house to buy as a holiday home.

On visiting Amelia we found Roberta at Planet Home and she was able to show us a wonderful property which I am pleased to say we now own.

Robert could not have been more helpful arranging visits, negotiating with the old owners and helping us through the sometimes complex rules of buying a house in Italy. We felt that she understood what we were looking for and was able to deliver on that. Since owning the house she has also been very helpful with the management of the property when we are not there. In summary, a complete antidote to the experience you usually get from English estate agents.

Although at the time it felt like a gamble to buy a house in an area we were unfamiliar with, we have completely falling in love with the area and people. The old town of Amelia is beautiful and unlike many towns in Umbria and Tuscany, it has a lively population in the old town and surrounding area. Although not close to the coast it is 45 minutes away from the gorgeous Lago di Bolsena, 30 minutes from Orvieto, 1 and half hours from both Rome airports and 1 hour from Rome itself by car and even quicker by train.

We have been so impressed that we are currently in the process of moving our family and 2 young children to Italy as we think it is so special (we currently live in Notting Hill in London).
